About
Why this blog exists.
Wino Techie is written for people who are curious about where wine and
technology meet: AI applied to viticulture and a warming climate, the
data behind the bottle, the markets that price it, and the systems, old
and new, that move value through the world's oldest luxury trade. Wine
has been a store of value for two thousand years; the tools we use to
understand it are brand new.
A few projects run through the site. The flagship is a model that
forecasts which grape varieties will thrive in a region as the climate
shifts. There is a deep-dive series on wine economics, tracing how wine
became money and kept surviving its own funerals. And there are smaller
data and software experiments along the way. Next come more physical
projects, like actually measuring how well wine preservers keep an open
bottle alive, instead of taking the marketing at its word.
A note on all of it: this is a hobby, not a credential.
I am not an expert in wine, climate science, economics, or any of the
topics here. I write these pieces to teach myself, then share them for
free in case they are useful to someone else. Work in progress is shown
in the open, which is why some content carries highlights that track
ongoing updates, such as tariffs on wine.
